Music Sources

By default, Longplay uses Apple Music as the source for your music. Support for local folders and network shares is currently in the works and the macOS app has experimental support for it. It is hidden by default, and you need to opt into the feature by opening Terminal, and running this command:

defaults write app.longplay.Longplay-Mac settings.sources.enable-local -bool true
Then open the in-app settings and the 'Sources' tab will show a new 'Local Files' option, where you then can add your folders. Make sure to press the 'Refresh Library' button when done.

History

Scrobbling

Scrobble using Last.fm or track you listens using ListenBrainz. Longplay will submit your played tracks.

Shortcuts

Longplay features over two dozen Shortcuts action for controlling anything from playback to your queue to your library. You can find and filter items by many different criteria, including genre or the number of collections they are in. You can get the album artwork for albums, view them in Longplay as an ad-hoc collection, save them as smart collections, and many more things.

View the Shortcuts examples in the app for some inspiration, or check out the list of Shortcuts actions in the Shortcuts app.

History

Smart Collections

Smart collection can be created through Shortcuts (or MCP on the Mac). First, use the "Find Albums" action with filters of your choice. And then either use the "Create Collection" Shortcut to save the smart collection directly, or the "Open and show" collection to first preview in the app and save as a smart collection from there. Alternatively, searches in the app can also be saved as smart collections.
